Month of the Ocean 2024: Develop a sustainable and equitable blue economy
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 is actively engaging in the Month of the Ocean (MOO) 2024 celebrations with a series of initiatives aimed at promoting marine conservation and sustainable practices. This year’s theme, “Develop a sustainable and equitable blue economy,” aligns with the UNESCO Ocean Decade Challenge 4, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development in oceanic activities.
The activities commenced on May 6, featuring a Coastal and Marine Trivia Game at the DENR 6 Courtyard, followed by an Ocean and Seas Forum at Fort San Pedro National High School. These events are designed to foster awareness among youth, particularly members of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), about the significance of marine conservation. Mary Ann Baldove, Chief of the Conservation and Development Division-Coastal Resource and Foreshore Management Section (CDD-CRFMS), highlighted the vital role of youth in these efforts, noting their ability to disseminate important information effectively, especially through digital platforms (Daily Guardian) (DENR).
DENR Region 6 Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran emphasized the necessity of collective action in preserving marine resources, urging widespread participation in MOO activities to highlight the critical contributions of oceans to the Philippine economy and environment (Daily Guardian) (DENR).
