National Disaster Resilience Month – BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being towards Disaster Resilience.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources joins the nationwide observance of National Disaster
Resilience Month (NDRM) this July with the theme, “BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being towards Disaster Resilience.”
National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) in the Philippines is an annual observance held every July. It aims to raise awareness and promote a culture of disaster preparedness and resilience among Filipinos. The observance is led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in coordination with various government agencies, local government units, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders.
During National Disaster Resilience Month, different activities and initiatives are organized to educate and engage the public in disaster risk reduction and management. These activities may include seminars, workshops, training sessions, drills, and community-based programs.
The month-long observance also serves as an opportunity to review and assess disaster preparedness plans and measures at various levels, including national, regional, provincial, and local. It encourages all sectors to evaluate their readiness and response capabilities, identify gaps, and implement necessary improvements.
The NDRM in the Philippines underscores the importance of building resilience and reducing vulnerabilities to natural and man-made hazards. Given the country’s geographical location and exposure to various natural disasters like typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions, promoting disaster preparedness and resilience is crucial in mitigating the impact of these events and protecting lives and properties.
Executive Order 29 s. 2017 designates July of each year as the National Disaster Resilience Month throughout the country.
